I knew when Jeff and I spec'd out his bike, it was going to be nice. When I finished taping the bars, stood back to admire, it occurred to me: this is modern kinetic sculpture.

Brent & Katryn,

We just got back from Disneyland last night. Needless to say, I was seriously ready to get away from the madding crowd and spend some quality time on the new bike.

My first thoughts were as follows:

As I was rolling it down the hall and outside I was struck by how low it felt compared to the Trek.

Upon sitting on it my torso felt a lot more extended. Once I got rolling I felt like I was getting a massage. I usually get a dull ache in my right psoas/piriformis area. With each pedal stroke it felt as if it was being rubbed out.

The bike emits no creaks and groans like carbon fiber. I just heard the wheels on the ground and the hum of the chain.

The Campy is a dream. Smooth and elegant.

The wheels are awesome!

I love looking down at the bars, white tape, and stem.

On to the ride....

I did a 90 minute ride to get the feel of things. I did some sprints, climbing, descending, cornering, spinning, and mashing. The ride was a transcendental experience. I didn't know if I should laugh or cry, so I just kept riding and grinning like a village idiot.

If I had to be succinct in my description, I would say it was insanely efficient. The response was instantaneous. If I wanted to bridge another rider it took a few pedal strokes and I was there. Even more so, I was there and not tired or out of breath. It just seems to take so much less effort to get results. Not to mention that it looks awesome on the road. That white really pops against the asphalt. I find it really sad that professional cycling no longer puts riders on steel. They are really missing out!

Thanks again. See you in 175 more miles.
